    Description

A Vintage, Mid Century Long Bowl/Bread Tray from the "Fruit" line of pottery dinnerware made by the Stangl company of Trenton, New Jersey.  It is probably designed to be used for bread but could also be used for relish, pickles, snacks, etc.  This particular piece has a multi-fruit motif composed of cherries, peach, pear, grapes and plums on it.
My measurements of the piece are approximate.  It is 15 1/8" wide.  It is about 6" across the rim and the rim is about 2" tall.
I show the maker marks on the bottom.  I do not know enough about the line to know if the stray marks are important.  Being pottery there are slight imperfections.
I inherited this from my Grandmother and we both used it.  There is one small chip in the rim near the handle but I am not sure if it was after production.  However there is a larger chip on the underside of the rim that is obviously after production.  I show both chips in the pictures. The pictures are of the item you will receive.  Please review the pictures and ask any questions you might have!
    Background information on the company:
    Stangl Pottery
was a company in Flemington (and later Trenton), New Jersey, that manufactured a line of hand-painted dinnerware known as “Stangl ware”. The company ceased production and closed in 1978, but the dinnerware is still prized by collectors as “a truly unique American folk-art product”.Pieces can be identified by the Stangl name on the bottom.
Originally the Stangl line was made by Fulper Pottery, which was bought by Johann Martin Stangl in 1930. The company name was changed to Stangl Pottery in 1955. In addition to dinnerware, Stangl was known for its line of bird figurines.
The designs of Stangl dinnerware were done by Kay Hackett, and featured folk art designs based on Pennsylvania Dutch motifs and nature (Fruit, Garden Flower, Thistle, etc).
