    Description

Listed for you is a Stangl Pottery APPLE DELIGHT (DELITE) 10" tidbit tray with tapered wooden handle.  Made of red clay in Trenton, NJ which was sprayed with white engobe and then the pattern stenciled on and carved in. It was fired and then decorators hand painted the colors on within the carved outlines.  It was resprayed using a clear glaze and fired a second time. Kay Hackett designed this pattern and many other similarly made Stangl patterns. This server was produced in the 1960's and stamped with the brown mark and painter's identification mark hand painted under.  In good condition with just one very tiny loss of white glaze on top of the lip of the raised inner ring at 1:00 o'clock which is on
the leading edge of the verge.  A few tiny scrape marks in the bowl which can only be seen when held to the light and inspected very carefully.  The handle is unique in that it is made of mahogany colored stained wood which is screwed onto the plate from the bottom and can be removed for easy stacking with other plates if you wish.
FYI: These tidbits were produced at the Flemington Outlet by drilling holes in plates to accommodate standard inexpensive handles.  These were made specifically to unload stacks of plates that were otherwise not selling according to Robert C. Runge, Jr. in his "Collector's Encyclopedia of Stangl Artware, Lamps and Birds," Copyright 2002.  "Any items that sat too long at the outlet were candidates for a handle, but 10" plates were most often used.  Usually the tidbits were advertised at very low prices in order to draw additional customers to the Flemington Outlet.....sometimes given to outlet customers during special promotions. Because of the vast quantities of tidbits produced at the Flemington Outlet, they are very  common items at this time."  Today they are part of the United States Pottery history.
I try to describe my items accurately and very carefully and show detailed photos. I sell mostly used collectible dinnerware, used collectibles and antique items, so it is to be expected that minor use marks or normal age conditions can be found. I do accept returns but only if I grossly misrepresent an item.  Returns should be boxed in original carton and return postage paid by the buyer. Please email with any questions.  Thank you for viewing my listing.
