    Description

RARE, hard to find, and a true treasure for serious collectors of Stangl or Flemington NJ history! This is an 8-3/4"-diameter Stangl Pottery souvenir Plate, which marks the establishment of the company (then named Hill Pottery) in Flemington, N.J. in 1805 (the year of its founding is now listed as 1814, but that change is more recent).
My guess is that Stangl produced this plate to commemorate an important anniversary -- possibly their 150th anniversary in 1955, as the plate appears to be from that period and the Stangl factory ceased operations in November of 1978. This piece was probably sold exclusively at Stangl's Flemington retail showroom -- the former site of Stangl's second Flemington Factory location (the original factory burned down in 1929), which operated exclusively as a retail showroom (and one of the country's first Factory Outlet Stores) from 1935-1978.
