Description
Listed here is a butter pail made in the late 1800's by the E.B. Eddy company. Ezra Eddy had obtained a patent for a wood pulp process by 1878 and established the E.B. Eddy Company in 1886. One of his earliest products was a line of "antiseptic ware" known as indurated fibreware. The Eddy slogan was that is was "the most perfect holloware known." The molded fibreboard products included pails, tubs, kettles and washboards. It was touted as being impervious to grease and water and was thoroughly antiseptic. Butter pails of various sizes were advertised in the Canadian Grocer in 1886. E.B. Eddy soon became the leading supplier of pulp and paper in Canada. By the early 1900's the indurated fibreware line was discontinued as other products gained favor. I have been scouring auctions and markets for over 30 years and this is the only E.B. Eddy piece like this I have found. On the bottom is stamped E.B. Eddy Antiseptic Pail. It would make a great container that has a wonderful story and history behind it.Ships by TRACKED parcel for guaranteed delivery to Canada and USA.
