Barbie® Dentist Doll and Playset, Blonde, with Small Patient Doll and Accessories. In New Unoped box.I. History:
a. Dentistry:
Dentists diagnose and treat issues with the mouth, teeth, and gums. They also provide training and advice on dental care to prevent future cavities and gum disease problems. In addition, a dentist may repair or remove broken teeth, take molds for dentures and other oral prosthetics, and deep clean scale and plaque from beneath the gum line.
Dentists typically work in a practice setting with other dentists. They employ a support team of hygienists and other office employees to provide complete care to their patients. Some dentists prefer to specialize in one or more practice areas, while others provide general services and refer patients to specialists when needed.
b. Women in Dentistry (United States):
The ADA
reports "that forty years ago, 7% of dental school graduates were women. By 2017, that number had shot up to 49%. And 60% of all practicing dentists under forty-four years old were women. In 2019, 18% of all dental school deans were women, and female dentists made up 28% of all state dental society presidents.
Less than a year ago, data showed that of the 201,117 dentists in the United States, 34.5% of them were women. All said and done, that works out to about 70,000 female dentists."
Looking at these numbers, we could very well see dentistry become a female-dominated field before too long.
c. Dentist Uniform for women:
Shoes:
Anything from polished dress shoes or loafers to flats or short heels.
Uniform:
As their Male counterparts, freshly laundered OSHA regulations lab coats are a must and gives a professional look. Skirt no more than 2” above the knee and preferably at the top of the knee. Flattering makeup and hair are appropriate, but No clothes that are sheer or too tight. Solid-colored jackets, dresses, and pants are always more professional-looking than loud patterns. They are also more flexible when mixing and matching her wardrobe and provide less cost per wear.
Conservative colors might be black, grey, brown, navy, or dark greens. Lighter colors or pastel colors are often viewed as less traditional or carry less authority but are often a good choice based on weather and her level of responsibility in the office. Uniforms must be well-fitted and immaculately clean.
Makeup:
Skin tone and body composition dictate the most flattering styles and colors. No heavy lip liner or bright-colored
lipstick. Earth tone eye shadow with conservative eyeliner is best.
Jewelry:
Minimal worn. Hoop earrings are no larger than a
dime, while long dangly earrings are not appropriate for safety. No noisy bracelets and no more than one ring per hand.
Hair:
Longhair worn up is considered more professional than long hair worn down as long as it has a very polished look.
d. Mattel's Barbie Doll line 1961 to present:
The first Vintage Barbie Dolls were released in 1959 by a reluctant Mattel toy Company. The Doll was the brain child of Ruth Handler who always believed the Doll would be a big seller. The story is very interesting several books have be written, an well as several collectors guides. In 1961 two years after the first release the company came up with the career line. Since 1961 the doll has held well over 200 different Jobs. The 1961 #5 is the first Barbie to have a hollow body. Many #5 Vintage Barbie Dolls have a "greasy" looking face due to the type of vinyl used (this problem no longer exists).

All and all, I think Mattel did an excellent job at a reasonable price point. The manufacture has the standard warning of "not for children under 3". Her hair is flowing and long, falling between the armpit and mid-back.
