Eslava House - ca. 1853
This exquisite home exemplifies all the elegance and expansiveness of a traditional Antebellum mansion but in the scale of a modest sized home. As a single story home on a well raised basement it encourages easy living. Wide porches off every room provide transitions from the grand interior spaces to the outdoors. The traditional floor plan divides symmetrically on either side of a central corridor, which provides cross ventilation, an excellent cooling strategy for hot humid climates.
As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans offer an excellent starting point. In addition to beautifully drawn plans and elevations, they contain a wealth of details, showing the columns, door and window trim, moldings, etc. This house would be most suited for a flat lot. It would be comfortable in a suburban or country setting. The house has outside dimensions of approximately 67' x 94', including porches.
