    Description

    I understand this is a commemorative medal typically considered coinage by history and collectors. It represents a time in Bolivian history marked by political and military turbulence. General Melgarejo ruled from 1864 to 1871 and came to power by personally murdering the previous leader until he himself was overthrown by a coup and soon thereafter murdered. Many of these coins are poorly struck; this example is better that most.
